The Peer Review Process

Dedicated to promoting the growth of scientific understanding, Zarqa International Journal of Nursing Research carefully assesses all submissions through a thorough double-blind peer-review system. This approach safeguards objectivity and equity throughout the evaluation process, upholding the journal’s excellence and encouraging the sharing of knowledge across diverse fields.

Submission and Initial Screening:

Manuscripts are submitted through the ZIJNR online system. The editorial team conducts a preliminary assessment to check the manuscript’s alignment with the journal’s scope and basic quality standards.

Reviewer Assignment

Reviewers are selected based on their expertise and familiarity with the manuscript's topic. Once suitable reviewers are identified, they receive an official email invitation requesting their participation in the manuscript evaluation. Reviewers must confirm within seven days whether the manuscript’s subject matter aligns with their expertise and the journal’s thematic focus. They are also required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest. Reviewers may accept or decline the invitation directly through the journal’s submission platform. If no response is received within one week, the editorial office may reassign the review to ensure timely processing.

Double-Blind Peer Review

The Zarqa International Journal of Nursing Research (ZIJNR) follows a double-blind peer review process, ensuring that the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the review process. This approach maintains objectivity and eliminates potential bias. Reviewers are tasked with critically appraising the manuscript, focusing on its originality, scientific merit, methodological rigor, ethical considerations, clarity of presentation, and relevance to nursing research and the journal’s scope.

Review Timeframe

Reviewers are expected to complete and submit their evaluations within two weeks of accepting the assignment. While extensions may be granted upon request, timely feedback is encouraged, as delayed responses may impact the editorial workflow. Feedback received after the deadline may not be considered to ensure efficient decision-making and manuscript processing.

Editorial Decision

Following the receipt of reviewer reports, the editorial team carefully reviews the reviewers' feedback and makes the final decision on the manuscript. Based on the reviewers’ recommendations, the editorial team may decide to accept the manuscript for publication, request minor or major revisions, or reject it. Authors are promptly informed of the editorial decision and are provided with comprehensive feedback, ensuring transparency and clarity in the evaluation process.

Revisions and Final Approval

If revisions are requested, authors are given the opportunity to revise their manuscript based on the reviewers' comments and suggestions. Revised manuscripts must be resubmitted within the specified timeframe. Depending on the extent of the changes, the revised submission may undergo an additional round of peer review, either by the same reviewers or directly by the editorial team, to ensure that all concerns have been adequately addressed. Once the manuscript meets the journal’s standards, it is accepted for publication.

Final Decision

While reviewer input is highly valued and critically informs the decision-making process, the final decision regarding the acceptance, revision, or rejection of a manuscript rests solely with the editor. The editor carefully considers the reviewers' feedback but maintains full authority to uphold the journal’s standards and ensure the publication of high-quality, impactful work. Once the editor has reviewed the revised manuscript and any additional feedback, a final decision is made. If accepted, the manuscript proceeds to the production phase. Authors are promptly informed of the decision and receive any necessary feedback.

Production

Once a manuscript is accepted for publication, it undergoes the production process, which includes formatting, copyediting, and proofreading. The editorial team ensures that the manuscript adheres to the journal's style and formatting guidelines. Authors may be asked to review proofs for accuracy and provide final approval before the manuscript is published.

Publication

Finalized manuscripts are published in the next available issue of the Zarqa International Journal of Nursing Research (ZIJNR). Authors are notified of the publication and receive a digital copy of their article. The article is made accessible on the journal’s website, ensuring broad visibility. The editorial team meticulously ensures that all published articles adhere to the journal’s style and formatting guidelines, maintaining a high standard of presentation and consistency.
