Accepted File Formats
Authors are encouraged to use the Zarqa International Journal of Nursing Research (ZIJNR) Microsoft Word or LaTeX templates to prepare their manuscripts. Using these templates will significantly reduce the time required for copy-editing and ensure consistency in the final publication format. The total size of all submission files should not exceed 250 MB. If this limit presents a challenge, please contact the Editorial Office at ZIJNR’s official email for further assistance.
• Microsoft Word: Manuscripts prepared in Microsoft Word must be submitted as a single file in standard format (.doc or .docx). Authors are encouraged to use the ZIJNR Microsoft Word template. Graphics (e.g., schemes, figures) should be embedded within the text after the paragraph where they are first mentioned.
• LaTeX: Manuscripts prepared in LaTeX should be compiled into a single ZIP folder. This folder must include all source files and images, allowing the Editorial Office to recompile the submitted PDF. Authors are encouraged to use the ZIJNR LaTeX template. Online submission using the Overleaf application (previously writeLaTeX) is also supported.
• Supplementary Files: Supplementary files may be submitted in any format. However, using common, non-proprietary formats is recommended to ensure compatibility.
Disclaimer. The ZIJNR manuscript preparation templates are exclusively intended for submitting articles to the Zarqa International Journal of Nursing Research (ZIJNR) for peer review. These templates must not be used for posting articles online, on preprint servers, or on other websites.
Submission Assistance. For further assistance or inquiries, please contact the ZIJNR Editorial Office via the official email provided on the journal’s website.
Free Format Submission
The Zarqa International Journal of Nursing Research (ZIJNR) now accepts free format submission for manuscripts. Authors are provided with flexibility in formatting their submissions, although all manuscripts must include the essential sections: Author Information, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusions, Figures and Tables with Captions, Funding Information, Author Contributions, Conflict of Interest Statement, and Ethics Statements. This structure ensures that all necessary information is presented clearly and consistently.
Regarding references, ZIJNR allows authors to use any reference style, provided that it is applied consistently throughout the manuscript. The APA style (7th Edition) is recommended for maintaining uniformity. References should include the names of the author(s), the year of publication, the title of the article or chapter (where applicable), the journal or book title, volume and issue numbers (where relevant), and pagination. While including DOI numbers (Digital Object Identifier) is not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged as it enhances the traceability of cited sources.
To facilitate proper citation management, authors are encouraged to use reference management software such as EndNote, Zotero, Mendeley, or Reference Manager. These tools help ensure accuracy and consistency in citations and references, making the submission process more efficient.
At the revision stage, authors will be required to format their manuscripts according to the specific guidelines of ZIJNR. This step ensures that all published articles maintain a consistent appearance, contributing to the journal's professional presentation. Authors seeking further details are advised to review the ZIJNR Author Guidelines or contact the editorial office for any clarification.
Cover Letter
For submissions to the Zarqa International Journal of Nursing Research (ZIJNR), a cover letter must accompany each manuscript. This letter should be clear and concise, providing a brief explanation of the significance of the paper's content and placing the findings within the context of existing research. It should also justify why the manuscript is appropriate for publication in ZIJNR, aligning with the journal's scope and focus.
The cover letter should not include the names of proposed or excluded reviewers; instead, this information should be entered directly into the submission system.
Additionally, the cover letter must include the following mandatory statements:
1. "We confirm that neither the manuscript nor any part of its content is currently under consideration for publication in another journal or has been published elsewhere."
2. "All authors have reviewed the manuscript and agree with its submission to the Zarqa International Journal of Nursing Research (ZIJNR)."
These declarations ensure transparency and compliance with ethical publication practices, maintaining the integrity of the submission process.
Preparing The Submission
Zarqa International Journal of Nursing Research accepts papers written in English. The articles should be properly written linguistically and be comprehensible to the journal's readers. The manuscript should be checked for grammar and vocabulary as well as formatting. It is recommended that non-native English authors utilize a professional language editing service before submission.
All manuscripts are subject to editorial review. All articles published in our journal are open access and freely available online, immediately upon publication. Authors will not be asked to pay the article processing charges (APC).
Parts of the Manuscript
The manuscript should be submitted in separate files: title page; main text file; figures; and supplementary files if required.
Title Page File
The title page should be submitted in a separate file and contains:
1. A short informative title containing the major keywords, with a maximum of 20 words. Avoid abbreviations and formulae unless they are widely understood.
2. A short running title of less than 40 characters.
3. The full names of the authors, including given names and family names, in the order they appear in the submission system.
4. Affiliations must be clearly listed below the author names, indicating where the work was conducted. Use lowercase superscript letters next to each author’s name to denote their respective affiliations. Complete postal addresses, including the country and, if available, email addresses for each author, should be provided.
5. The full postal and email address, plus telephone numbers, of the author to whom correspondence about the manuscript should be sent and note that only one corresponding author is permitted.
6. Acknowledgments (Contributions from individuals who do not meet the authorship criteria should be acknowledged. Financial support may also be recognized).
7. Conflict of Interest Statement: Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may influence their research or its interpretation. This includes financial interests, personal relationships, or affiliations that could be perceived as biasing the research outcomes.
8. Funding statement: Authors must disclose any financial support received for their research. This includes funding from institutions, grants, or sponsorships. Acknowledgments should be included in a separate section at the end of the manuscript.
Abstract
The abstract should be a concise and factual summary of your research, limited to a maximum of 250 words. It must be structured under the following sub-headings: Background, Aim, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. This structure ensures clarity and provides a clear overview of the study. The Background section should briefly explain the context or rationale of the research, while the Aim should state the specific objective of the study. The Methods section should outline the research design, data collection, and analysis techniques. The Results section should present the main findings, and the Conclusion should highlight the key takeaways or implications of the study.
To maintain clarity and accessibility, the abstract should avoid abbreviations, especially those that are non-standard or uncommon. If any abbreviation is essential, it must be clearly defined at its first mention within the abstract. References should generally be avoided.
Keywords
Provide three to five keywords below the abstract, arranged in alphabetical order. These keywords should be written in English and should generally be single words rather than multi-word phrases. Abbreviations in keywords should be used only if they are firmly established and widely recognized within the field. This approach ensures that the abstract and keywords are clear, accessible, and useful for indexing and retrieval purposes.
Main Text File
The anonymized main text file should contain the main body of your paper including:
1. Title, abstract and keywords
2. Main text (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion)
3. References
4. Tables
5. Figures
References
References should be prepared according to the APA Manual 7th edition.
Tables and Figures
Formatting: All tables and figures must be clearly labeled and cited in the text. Each table and figure should be accompanied by a descriptive title.
Quality: Figures should be submitted in high resolution (at least 300 dpi) and in an appropriate format (e.g., JPEG, TIFF, or PNG). Tables should be created using standard word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word or Excel).
Permissions: If tables or figures are reproduced from other sources, authors must obtain permission from the original copyright holder and include this information in the figure/table legend.
Authorship and Author Contribution
All listed authors are to have contributed to the manuscript substantially, agreed to the order in which the author names appear, and agreed to the final submitted version.
To qualify for authorship, individuals’ authorship be based on the following 4 criteria:
Contributed significantly to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
Drafted the work or revised it critically for important intellectual content; AND
Approved the final version to be published; AND
Are accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Data Availability
Authors are required to provide a data availability statement when submitting their manuscript. During submission, authors can choose from several predefined statements or use the text editor to specify the data availability for their research.
Conflicts of Interest
All authors must disclose any relevant interests that could be perceived as potential conflicts of interest. These conflicts may arise if external factors are reasonably seen to influence the neutrality or objectivity of the research or its evaluation. If no conflicts exist, authors should clearly state this. The statement should read: "The author(s) declare(s) that there is no conflict of interest regarding the publication of this article."
Conflicts of interest (COIs), also known as "competing interests," must be transparently declared in a dedicated section. This includes all financial, personal, or professional connections that could be seen as influencing the work, even if they did not directly impact the study's outcomes. The submitting author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have disclosed their interests.
Furthermore, any current or recent funding (including payment for article processing charges) must be disclosed in the funding statement. This applies to any individual or organization involved in any stage of the research process — from concept development and data analysis to manuscript preparation and publication decision. Editors and reviewers will consider the declared conflicts of interest, and these will be disclosed in the final published article.
Funding Statement
Authors must provide a clear statement specifying how the research and publication were funded. This should include the full name of the funding organization(s) and any associated grant numbers in square brackets (e.g., "This work was supported by …………….. [grant numbers xxxx, yyyy]").
If the research was conducted as part of the authors' employment without specific external funding, the employer's name should be provided. Any involvement of the funding body in manuscript writing, editing, approval, or decision-making should be transparently declared.
Acknowledgments
Acknowledgments should be included at the end of the manuscript, before the references. This section is reserved for recognizing individuals or organizations who contributed to the research or manuscript preparation but did not qualify for authorship. Permission should be obtained from any individuals mentioned in the acknowledgments.
